The Lottery and Waiting Lists
State law requires us to admit students based on an annual lottery. The process required some explanation because of our waiting lists.
Note: DMS has waiting lists for most grades;
Spaces are currently available in the high school.
The second Friday in February, we hold the legally required Open Enrollment lottery. In order to participate, you must have attended a tour previously. All registration forms submitted during Open Enrollment will be part of the Open Enrollment lottery.
Students who apply at Open Enrollment are added, in the order of the lottery draw, at the end of any existing waiting list that is brought forward for that grade level.
Spaces for following school year are offered from April on through the summer until classes are full. Also, at the beginning of term in August, some spaces become available due to last minute changes in a family’s plans. These are offered based on the waiting list order for each class.
New enrollment applications are accepted after the start of the school year until the 100th day in January. These students are added to the end of the existing waiting lists.
Spaces that become available during the school year are offered to those next in line on the waiting lists.
In January, prior to the next lottery being held, existing waiting list applicants verify that they wish to roll forward for another year. In order to be eligible to roll forward, a family will have to have attended at least two parent education sessions in the previous 12 months, and a Parent Orientation session.
After the lottery, new applicants will be added to the waiting lists, subject to them attending the next available Parent Orientation session.
If you have additional questions about our school, the registration process or Open Enrollment, please email the Enrollment Director. Thank you for your interest in Desert Marigold School.
