Desert Marigold School is a learning community where everyone grows.
If you want to take an active part in your child’s education journey, if you want to contribute to the creation of community, if you want to be a life-long learner yourself, if you are open to new ideas and want to strive for a better future for all, then Desert Marigold is the place for you and your children.
While your child learns, you can learn!
In addition to class-based parent education events, there are extensive adult learning opportunities available where you can learn more about child development and our curriculum. This will deepen your understanding of the education your child is receiving and strengthen the partnership between yourself and your child’s teacher(s)–that is part of what makes DMS learning community where everyone grows.
There is remarkable amount of support shared amongst community members. The Parent Council has a FaceBook page for car pools and is working towards one for “care pooling.” Because we seek to make our enhanced education available to all, without limitation, the school provides scholarships for those that need assistance for items like the extra costs of field trips. Parent Council raises funds for its Hope and Help initiative to provide basic assistance through clothing and meals at school when there is need.
This concern for the well-being of others, and desire to treat everyone as equals, creates a sense of “warmth” with the DMS community that is often noted by newcomers, some even on their first visit!
Participate in the building of community!
Festivals, fairs and other social events on our peaceful grounds all help make DMS a vibrant community. These things can only be maintained if everyone takes responsibility for supporting what benefits us all. We will help you find the place where you can make your unique contribution of your time and talents as a volunteer.
The Parent Council is Desert Marigold’s parent-teacher organization and takes initiatives to support the students, the teachers and the school as a whole. In collaboration with faculty and administration, parent council’s responsibilities include:
- Coordinating class parents to facilitate communication
- Coordinating volunteer efforts for school events and festivals
- Creating social warmth and community
- Coordinating fundraising efforts to enhance our students’ educational experience and to support our community
- Providing a forum where parents can express and nurture their ideas, interests and skills
Located on a beautiful, 12-acre campus at the foot of South Mountain, our biodynamic garden, protected nature pond, and resident farm animals give substance to our commitment to sustainability as an intrinsic part of our curriculum.
As we see it, you will not have simply picked a school for your child, you will have decided to become a contributing member of a community committed to social renewal.
We look forward to having you and your family being part of our growing community!
